Make Peace A Priority

One of the most unsettling things about leaving toxic relationship abuse is the quiet we experience once we’re out. When we are in toxic relationships we are so accustomed to feeling anxious and off balance that it actually feels uncomfortable and even worse to adjust to the quiet that comes after we leave them. We are used to feeling chronically worried, to our mind racing and to trying to keep our fears at bay. As much as we crave to feel at peace when we’re in relationships them, the quiet is an enormous adjustment without them. This adjustment doesn’t signify that we must have loved the toxic person deeply; we feared them deeply. Fear is a consuming emotion. When we get out of toxic ties we must be patient as we adjust to the quiet and not confuse it with loneliness. The quiet is where we heal. The quiet is where we do our therapy, our reading, our journal writing. The quiet is where we come to find ourselves, the person we loved prior to our relationship with the toxic person who came into our life. Embrace the quiet. You will eventually find your peace there. Once you find your peace, promise never to sacrifice it again.
